Riga Stradins University

Riga Medical Institute was found on the basis of the Faculty of Medicine of University of Latvia in 1950. The Institute was renamed as Medical Academy of Latvia in 1990. In April 5th, 1998, the Medical Academy of Latvia received its name based on its actual activities as Rīga Stradiņš University.

Riga Stradins University is autonomous and academically free to follow its aims and tasks, working for the benefit of the state and society, and offering a wide range of academic and professional education as well as research opportunities.

Riga Stradins University involves many of the best practices, has been used in medical education and meets students with modern teaching technologies. In 2013, Riga Stradins University launched the Medical Education Technology Centre, which offers healthcare students the great chance to use technological tools in their medical training. Lecture rooms are equipped with simulator systems and many others, which allow students to obtain practical experience starting from the 2nd year, earlier than they begin working with patients in clinics and hospitals. These simulators provide students with practical training, not only regarding medical consideration, also other areas that have overall importance to team-work, medical staff – communication, and time management.
